D'Aprile's final round appearance moves Mel Bush Motorsports to second on IHRA points ladder

(7-23-2008)
PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – Team Owner Mel Bush used every aspect of his team to get his driver, Tommy D'Aprile, into the finals at the recently completed Mopar Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada.

"Everyone on this team did their jobs to the highest level. Tommy did one hell of a job behind the wheel and my crew along with the guys from Jan-Cen Motorsports are second to none. I've been around this sport for a lot of years and to see how well these guys work under pressure is amazing," said Bush.

D'Aprile qualified Bush's unique '62 Bel Air in the number two spot with a 6.044 at over 237 miles per hour pairing him with Thomas Patterson. Patterso... [Read More]

Fan’s final request granted with a one-of-a-kind flyover

(7-22-2008)
MEMPHIS, TN – At every opportunity, Memphis Motorsports Park does what it can to say “yes” to their race fans. Just ask Barbara Dunn, who, with the track’s blessing and a lift from WMC-TV’s Chopper 5, was able to honor her late husband’s wish to have his ashes scattered over his home track.

Charlie “Chuck” Dunn had been a drag racing fan since his time in Colorado near Bandimere Speedway. The Dunns’ recent move to the Mid-South was made easier by the fact that they would only be a short drive from another national event track – Memphis Motorsports Park. Dunn was quick to adopt the championship drag strip as his “new” home track and attended the O’Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals three years in a row – 2004-200... [Read More]

Quick 8 Outlaws roll back into Orangeburg Saturday

(7-22-2008)
ORANGEBURG, SC – The Worlds Fastest Automatics, the Quick 8 Outlaws, will be back at Orangeburg Dragstrip this weekend. These Blown, Nitrous Injected, ProCharger assisted and Turbocharged doorslammers will race side-by-side at speeds approaching 180 mph with E.T.’s in low 4 second range. There will be a mixture of cars including anything from a '51 Chevy to an '06 GTO and there will be up to 8 different car makes going head to head.

At the last Quick 8 Outlaws race at Carolina Dragway it was a battle of the Jordans and their Corvette’s. Dennis got the win driving Don Brown’s Executioner '53 Corvette over Troy Jordan in Terry and Terri Green’s Team Blade Runner '04 Corvette. In a very close finish, Dennis ran a 4.15 at 174.5... Ronnie Gardner scores first Outlaw Mad Dawg win

(7-21-2008)
MOORESVILLE, NC – After several attempts Ronnie Gardner and car owner Jack Gaddy get their first Outlaw Mad Dawg win. Ronnie won the race after a pedal fest with David Lambert. "We had a new pair of slicks that we tried on the car that didn’t work out. We were trying them to see if it would help straighten the car out, and they didn’t. The first round we forgot to turn the computer on so we really didn’t know what was going to happen in the 2nd round and we ended up going low for the round. All in all it was a good night and man that is one nice trophy!" said car owner Jack Gaddy standing in victory lane.

With air temperatures in the mid 90's the track was a sizzling hot 138 degrees when the first round of qualifying kicked o... [Read More]

Runner-up finish for Doug Winters at Maple Grove Super Chevy Show

(7-21-2008)
KERNERSVILLE, NC – Doug Winters and the Winters Racing team went into this past weekend’s Super Chevy Show at Maple Grove Raceway hoping to improve on their Runner-up finish at this same event in 2007. However, instead of improving, they repeated. Doug lost in the final round to Tommy Gray to once again get the runner up spot for the Nitro Coupes Class.

One thing that was different this year was the heat. Each day the temperature was well into the 90’s with no cloud cover. This made for a very tricky track. “At one point Allen, my brother and crew chief, just quit bringing the temperature gun to the starting line,” stated Doug. “I think the last time he measured the track temperature it was over 135... “This was a great weekend and a real tribute to Al Billes, my crew and everyone who works on this car,” Hoover said. “They work so hard night after night, day after day, giving up their free time to come with me. I mostly have a volunteer crew and it’s great to win for them.” Hoover (Gilbert, S.C.) qualified in the top half of the field, ending up #5 on the sheet, and defeated Mark Nielson, Jason Hamstra and Mike Janis to reach the final round. He was very consistent in eliminations, carding 6.107, 6... [Read More]

WJ hopes for a successful launch in Seattle

(7-20-2008)
KENT, WA – Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts GXP crew had their hands full during qualifying for the Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals in Seattle, WA, battling to find the right set-up through all four rounds of qualifying. Although they were able to post a representative 6.654-second time in Saturday's early session to earn the fourteenth starting position, The Professor acknowledged further improvement would be necessary in order to contend for the win on Sunday.

Fortunately, horsepower is not a concern, as evidenced by Johnson's 209.23 mph top speed, which was fourth best in Pro Stock. In fact, their attention for Sunday will be squarely focused on the early part of their runs, where they have worked tirelessly througho... [Read More]

"I'd say it was a good day," Coughlin said. "We're not qualified exactly where we want to be but we've got a handle on the car now and we feel really strong heading into tomorrow. Our confidence is back up where we like it to be."

Always one to compare his car's performance to those of the others in any given session, Coughlin was pleased to see his JEGS.com Chevrolet Cobalt was the fifth quickest of Round 3 and fourth quickest of Round 4.

(7-19-2008)
