» Andy Jensen King Of The Beach Race Report
Andy Jensen wins second consecutive 'King of the Beach' title

(9-30-2014) NESCOPECK, PA – This past weekend was the annual 'King of the Beach' outlaw Pro Mod race at Colonial Beach Dragway in Virginia.

The weather was perfect and all the teams in attendance were anticipating a great race including the Jensen team who made the 6 hour trip south to defend their title as King of the Beach.

After the two Saturday night qualifying sessions the team was qualified 3rd and had not made a 'clean pass, only running a 4.14 @ 179 MPH so things were looking rough for the team so far from home.

Sunday morning the team showed up at the track with a list of changes to make to the 4 link, shocks and clutch in hopes of improving their performance and qualifying position. On the final qualifying attempt the team ran a better 4.11 and gained valuable data but not enough to... [Read More]

Lucas Oil’s Gary Phillips Adelaide-bound with 18th ANDRA title on his mind

(9-30-2014) HILLCREST, QLD – Aussie drag racing legend Gary Phillips is heading to Adelaide this weekend for the ANDRA Fuchs Spring Nationals in the hope that last-minute lessons learnt in Top Doorslammer can help fuel his run to the Top Alcohol title next month in Sydney.

Phillips, a 17-time ANDRA champion, will race his Lucas Oil 1953 Studebaker Commander this weekend in Top Doorslammer – and is confident that there’s plenty to learn with the Top Alcohol championship on the line.

“We apply what we learn between the two Lucas Oil cars, the Studebaker we’ll race this weekend, and the Chevrolet Monte Carlo Funny Car we run in Top Alcohol,” said Phillips, who has won 16-titles in Top Alcohol and one in Top Doorslammer (2007).

“That was one of the reasons we decided to head to Adelaide,... [Read More]

Mean green machine rebuilt ahead of Spring Nationals

(9-30-2014) PERTH, WA – Racing a damaged Camaro following his touch up with the wall in Sydney at the X-Champs in May, Perth young gun Daniel Gregorini has a new look for his Adelaide International Raceway debut at this weekend’s Fuchs Spring Nationals.

Gregorini has performed admirably in his first full season following the national Top Doorslammer circuit bringing some old school style and flash back to the startline to compliment his on track performances.

"We had to continue the rounds after the crash as I committed myself to do,” he said. “The Fuchs Winternationals was a great comeback to make the finals against 6-time champ John Zappia, it was unbelievable. Then a first round loss at Hidden Valley was a bit of a blow, but that's racing.”

Thanks to some down time since July, the Scratch & Match team embarked... [Read More]

Scott Porter back in the seat at Benaraby

(9-30-2014) GLADSTONE, QLD – Scott Porter will return to the driver’s seat of his Pro Stock Ford GT Mustang when the ANDRA Drag Racing Series visits Benaraby Raceway for the very first time this Friday and Saturday October 3-4.

The West Mackay resident is excited to compete in a National event so close to home before giving up his ride for American fiancé Grace Howell at the Australian Nationals. The pair is to be married in early 2015.

“We are really looking forward to racing at Benaraby as it will be great to show a presence of Pro Stock in Central Queensland as there is such a large drag racing fan base up here,” he said.

“The opportunity for ANDRA to host a race in the area will certainly tap into a new market and further solidify racing participation from a region that holds many cars already. I have heard that the track... [Read More]

Zappia can clinch Top Doorslammer title in Adelaide

(9-29-2014) VIRGINIA, SA – Aussie Drag Racing legend and Top Doorslammer Champion John Zappia could add lucky number #7 to his six consecutive titles since 2008 this weekend at the Fuchs Spring Nationals in Adelaide.

The Fuchs/Striker Monaro has been a dominant force yet again this season coming off three successive ANDRA Drag Racing Series victories to hold a 138 point lead over his nearest rival Stuart Bishop.

Zappia is confident progression through the first round on Sunday should be enough to clinch the title or at the very least heap more pressure on Bishop.

“I’m pretty sure we only need to go past the first round,” says Zappia.

“We’re 138 points ahead. If we both get through the first round, then he can only gain 140 more points if I lost there and went out in the first round in Sydney (at the... [Read More]

O’Rourke ready to 'Spring' into action at AIR

(9-29-2014) BRISBANE, QLD – The O’Rourke Motorsport show will soon be on the road to Adelaide International Raceway, where Grant O’Rourke and his Pontiac Firebird Top Doorslammer will compete in the Spring Nationals across October 4 and 5.

The 44 year old is currently locked in an intense battle with Peter Kapiris for third position in his first full Top Doorslammer season in nine years, leading Kapiris by just 15 points with two rounds of racing still to be held.

In preparation for the Spring Nationals, it has been a busy Winter break for the husband and wife O’Rourke Motorsport outfit, with a new workshop built and a new sponsor welcomed to the team in QCS Group.

“Since racing in Darwin in July, we have been hard at work having a new workshop built to house our transporter, both of our race cars and supply an ample... [Read More]

Barbagallo confident of big show in Benaraby

(9-29-2014) GLADSTONE, QLD – Pro Stock gun John Barbagallo will make his debut at Benaraby Raceway in the penultimate round of the Australian Pro Stock Championship next week.

The excitement Barbagallo shows for the Benaraby Nationals is infectious as he gears up to face his mates Aaron and Tyronne Tremayne who are attempting to close in on the ANDRA Drag Racing Series title.

“Aaron and Tyronne are great racers and friends of mine,” he said.

“Their heart and soul are into this category. The best thing about those guys running fast is that it has lit a fire in my belly. Now I have a goal again, to go faster! Bring on Benaraby!”

Aside from another excuse to get out on track, Barbagallo sees this event as an ideal opportunity to promote the sport and the Pro Stock bracket in an area largely patronised by grass... [Read More]

Jimmy Ålund wins ninth FIA European Pro Stock championship

(9-29-2014) TALLMADGE, OH – European Pro Stock racer Jimmy Ålund won his ninth championship at the season-ending FIA European Drag Racing Finals held September 4-7 at Santa Pod Raceway in the United Kingdom.

This championship highlighted a wild year for Ålund. He began the season driving the Summit Racing/KB Racing Pro Stock Camaro in NHRA competition while Greg Anderson was recuperating from surgery. Ålund steadily improved during the five events he competed in, culminating with a win at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in April.

Ålund returned to his native Sweden to run the FIA European Drag Racing Series. His J&J Performance team had a new Camaro, engines from KB Racing, and associate sponsorship from Summit Racing. However, the team had issues matching all of its KB Racing horsepower to race tracks that varied greatly in... [Read More]

Wild ride ends with race-ending wreck, Farber walks away unhurt

(9-29-2014) BALDWINVILLE, MA – Pete Farber Racing's weekend at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals Pro Mod race at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL came to an unfortunate end on Friday, September 26, 2014 after a wreck sidelined the team.

Starting the weekend off with high hopes, Farber and his crew prepped their supercharged CRC Automotive Brākleen ‘69 Dodge Daytona and were ready to go when the call to the staging lanes was made for the first round of Pro Mod qualifying.

Set to run in the left lane, Farber pulled through the water box and completed his burnout without an issue. He staged his car, and when the green light lit, he dropped the hammer and got started on what should have been a flawless run. Farber encountered unexpected severe tire shake almost immediately after leaving the starting... [Read More]

Mike Knowles takes first career Pro Mod win at AAA Midwest Nationals

(9-29-2014) MADISON, IL – Mike Knowles’ Blown Money team is one of the highest profiled teams on the NHRA Pro Mod circuit. Their dedication to excellence is evident to anyone who gets just a quick glimpse of their operation but, for many a year the winner’s circle at an NHRA event has evaded them. That was until this past weekend.

Knowles advanced to the finals of the NHRA Pro Mod class at the AAA Insurance Midwest Nationals held at Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis, Mo. from the 14th qualifying position. He was able to defeat Steven Whiteley in round one, followed by a win over Kevin Fiscus in round two, and then Todd Tutterow in the semi-finals.

As if heading into only your second career wasn't drama enough; Knowles had to stop his wife and children from catching their flight home to ensure they... [Read More]
