PSCA 2015 opener at Fontana postponed

(2-25-2015) LAS VEGAS, NV – Due to the threat of inclement weather, the Pacific Street Car Association announced this weekend's Mickey Thompson Tires So-Cal Nationals at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, Calif., has been postponed. PSCA officials are working with the track and try to re-schedule the event.

"While we hate to pull the trigger early," said PSCA President Mel Roth, "We don't want racers and fans to make their way to Fontana and then have to turn around and leave if the weather hits."

The next event on the PSCA schedule is three weeks away as the series returns to Sin City for the MagnaFuel Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway March 20-22. After that, it's back to Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway May 1-3 for the PSCA/Chassisworks Spring Shootout. For more information on these and all PSCA events, visit... [Read More]

Cold weather postpones racing at MIR for third weekend

(2-25-2015) MILLINGTON, TN – The continued rash of cold weather has pushed the start of Memphis International Raceway's (MIR) season for a third time. The forecast temperatures hovering around the freezing mark combined with the possibility of more rain during the weekend has led MIR to call off Saturday's Test N Tune session and Sunday's Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams race.

"We're as eager as everyone else to get the season going," said MIR VP and GM Pam Kendrick. "But with all the cold and the ice we've gotten recently our crew hasn't been able to prepare the track for opening. We want to start the season on a positive note and making sure the facility is ready for the racers, fans and team is our No. 1 priority.

"You hear third time's a charm, we're hoping this third time pushing things back will... [Read More]

Gray Motorsports powers through NHRA Nationals in Phoenix

(2-23-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – The second race of 24 on NHRA's 2015 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour allowed the Gray Motorsports team the opportunity to unleash the power that they have worked diligently to procure. Although the package isn't yet perfect, the engine shop back home in Denver, N.C., had much to be proud of, as did the steadfast on-site crew and drivers who kept their heads down and their attention focused.

The 31st annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park saw Gray Motorsports power securing top speed of the meet honors with FireAde 2000 Chevrolet Camaro driver Larry Morgan blasting to a 211.89 mph pass during qualifying that not one other competitor could match. Veteran Pro Stock competitor Morgan also clocked the third-fastest speed in the first round on raceday.

Anderson encouraged by round win and supportive team

(2-22-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – The Summit Racing team will be burning the midnight oil between the 31st annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park and the next race on the tour, the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville. Encouraged by progressive steps seen in Phoenix at this weekend's event – the second of the 2015 season of NHRA's Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Greg Anderson and his Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro team are keeping their noses to the grindstone as they prepare for a strong push for the remainder of the year.

Anderson qualified in the No. 9 position with a 6.578 at 210.67. For the first round of eliminations, the 74-time NHRA national event winner drew veteran Pro Stock competitor Larry Morgan. Although Morgan came to the round with lane choice, Anderson was armed for battle and managed to make it... [Read More]

Alund shows power and perseverance in Phoenix

(2-22-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – The 31st annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals were a time of growth for Norrkóping, Sweden's Jimmy Alund. Qualifying put Alund and his J&J Performance Racing team through some ups and downs, but they had come to the event at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park with a bit of a different program than they had two weeks ago in Pomona, and they quickly ironed out the bumps to clock their quickest and best pass of the weekend in the first round of eliminations.

Alund, the No. 13 qualifier, arrived on Sunday morning for a first round match with Allen Johnson, whom he raced last year in the first round and lost by just .009-second. This time around, Alund was charging with KB Racing power but again came up just short. AJ got the winlight, 6.588 at 210.05 to Alund's improved 6.615, 210.14. Still, Alund and his team were... Brogdon conquers reigning champ to score big win in Phoenix

(2-22-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – Pro Stock veteran Rodger Brogdon scored the biggest victory of his professional career Sunday, defeating reigning world champion Erica Enders-Stevens by 14 feet in the final round of the 31st annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

It was the second time Brogdon has beaten his Houston neighbor in the final round of a national event but the first time since Enders-Stevens won the Pro Stock world title last year. Both racers are powered by Elite Performance engines, the main sponsor of Enders-Stevens' team.

"We've both got fast race cars and it was an exciting race," said Brogdon, who moved into the points lead with the win. "That's such a great group over there at Elite, and Erica is the champion and we're all very proud of her. Beating that girl isn't easy, I... [Read More]

Line's competent Summit Racing Camaro heading to Gainesville

(2-22-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – The second race of 24 in NHRA's 2015 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is in the books, and Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Jason Line was hoping to continue his win streak after scoring the title at the first race of the season two weeks ago. Unfortunately, a second straight victory was not in the cards. Team Summit, however, is formulating a plan to continue an upward climb as they depart the 31st annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals and Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park near Phoenix.

Line, of Mooresville, N.C., blasted to a qualifying best time of 6.562-second and earned a start from the No. 6 spot. The driver of the blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro continued his quest in the first round of eliminations with a strong 6.567 at 210.70 mph that was the quickest pass of the round and defeated KB Racing... Champ Enders-Stevens pulls runner-up card in the desert

(2-22-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – Progressing through the elimination ladder once again, reining World Champion Erica Enders-Stevens came up one win light short of victory at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

Taking on No. 16 Joey Grose in the first round of final eliminations, Enders-Stevens was able to power her Elite Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro on with a win after Grose experienced an issue with his car early in the run.

In the second round against Greg Anderson, Enders-Stevens cut a .013 light and never looked back, running a 6.570 to beat Anderson's 6.603 and advance to her second semifinal of the year.

However, the semifinal round was a tight battle in which both her and Chris McGaha had almost identical reaction times, her .027 to his .026. McGaha's car stepped out... [Read More]

Hagan, Schumacher and Brogdon race to victories at CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals

(2-22-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – Matt Hagan raced to his second consecutive Funny Car victory of the season and extended his early season points lead Sunday at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel) and Rodger Brogdon (Pro Stock) also were winners of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event near Phoenix.

Event top qualifier Hagan was consistently quick all day in his Mopar Express Lane/Rocky Boots Dodge Charger R/T and posted the quickest run of the weekend in his final-round win over Del Worsham. Hagan posted a track record performance of 3.975 seconds at 324.83 mph to defeat Worsham’s DHL Toyota Camry, which finished in 4.010 at 318.17.

FireAde racer Morgan comes up inches short in Phoenix

(2-22-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – Trying to keep his consistency throughout the weekend alive, a spark of hope in the first round was extinguished prematurely for FireAde Chevrolet Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

"I could tell right away," Morgan said. "When it started to tremble in low gear, I knew I was in trouble. We didn't have enough clutch to move the car. When it does that, you can't seem to do anything right and the clutch gets hot. It is what it is though, and we'll look forward to the next race in Gainesville (Fla.)."

Facing off against No. 9 Greg Anderson in the first round of eliminations, Morgan put down a solid 6.599-second pass at 211.20 mph, compared to Anderson's 6.606 at 210.64 mph. Unfortunately, Anderson's .033 reaction time beat Morgan's .042, giving Anderson the holeshot win and... [Read More]

Bob Harris inducted into NC Drag Racing Hall of Fame

(2-22-2015) PITTSBORO, NC – This past weekend the PDRA’s own Bob Harris joined an elite group of North Carolina Drag Racing personalities. He was chosen for induction into the North Carolina Drag Racing Hall of Fame. He worked his way through the ranks for the next 13 years, challenging competitors in IHRA Hot Rod, Quick Rod and Top Sportsman and NHRA Super Comp. The Harris name soon became one to be feared by the helmet... [Read More]

Johnson confident heading into Phoenix eliminations

(2-21-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – Defending Pro Stock winner Allen Johnson is feeling confident about the work that his Johnson & Johnson team has put in this weekend through their four qualifying runs with the “Magneti Marelli Offered by Mopar” Dodge Dart.

AJ ran the fourth quickest time of the third qualifying session with a 6.572 second run (211.20 mph) and the fifth best pass of the final lap with a 6.577/210.18 to remain fourth on the eliminations ladder on the basis of his 6.551/211.36 run Friday in Q2. He’ll have lane choice over Jimmy Alund for the first round.

“I feel like we were really consistent through qualifying this weekend,” Johnson said. “We have been making some good runs with our Dodge Dart and even if we may have been a bit conservative in our approach, that’s what it is going to take tomorrow. We just need to... [Read More]

Line consistent with Phoenix raceday on the horizon

(2-21-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – Summit Racing NHRA Pro Stock driver Jason Line was a heavy hitter on the first day of qualifying for the 31st annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, and on Saturday he was in no mood to lie down. Back at it, the driver of the blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro continued a consistent showing and picked up a bonus point en route to settling into the No. 6 position in the final qualifying order. Line will race another KB Racing powered driver, Vincent Nobile, in the first round of eliminations on Sunday.

On Friday in Phoenix, Line jumped into the No. 4 spot in the qualifying order with a 6.562-second pass at 211.16 mph and clocked a consistent 6.562 at 210.97 in the later round to temporarily occupy the No. 6 position. Saturday, refreshed and ready, Line and his Rob Downing-tuned... [Read More]

With eyes on the prize, Enders-Stevens heads into Sunday in Phoenix No. 1

(2-21-2015) CHANDLER, AZ – Nothing is slowing down Pro Stock driver Erica Enders-Stevens this weekend at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, where she looks to continue her title defense from the No. 1 qualifying spot during tomorrow's final eliminations at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals.

"It's been a great start to the year for our entire Elite Motorsports team, at least a better start to the year than we had in 2014," Enders-Stevens said. "I'm really proud of the guys, especially with how much we've struggled so far. We've been able to post two No. 1 qualifying positions, but at the same time we've struggled behind the scenes. I'm really proud of their determination and perseverance. It's just really exciting for me to be on the pole going into Sunday."
